National Storytelling Week

January 27, 2025 - February 3, 2025

National Storytelling Week

National Storytelling Week, celebrated annually from 27th January to 3rd February, is a week-long event dedicated to the ancient and powerful art of storytelling. Organised by the Society for Storytelling, this week encourages people to share stories, engage with traditional and modern tales, and appreciate the rich cultural heritage that storytelling brings to communities around the world.

Storytelling is a universal form of communication that spans generations, cultures, and genres, from folk tales and fairy tales to personal anecdotes and contemporary narratives. During National Storytelling Week, storytellers, schools, libraries, museums, and community groups across the UK host events and activities to engage the public in the joy and power of storytelling. This week is an opportunity to celebrate the role of stories in education, emotional well-being, and community cohesion.

By participating in storytelling events, whether as a listener or a narrator, people of all ages can connect with their cultural roots, pass on wisdom, and enjoy the magic that stories bring. National Storytelling Week reminds us of the importance of this art in preserving our collective histories and igniting imaginations.
