World Hello Day

November 21, 2026

Girl waving for World Hello Day

World Hello Day takes place on 21st November every year to express that conflicts should be resolved through communication rather than the use of force.

The day encourages people to greet each other and demonstrate the importance of communication and goodwill among people of different backgrounds, cultures, and languages. The idea is to use the simple greeting of “Hello” as a way to bridge the gaps between individuals and promote peace.

World Hello Day was first introduced in 1973 by Brian McCormack, a Ph.D. graduate of Arizona State University, and Michael McCormack, a graduate of Harvard University, both from the United States. The event is a response to the conflict between Egypt and Israel, with the McCormack brothers envisioning a day when conflicts could be resolved through communication rather than violence.

On World Hello Day, people are encouraged to greet at least ten people with a friendly “Hello” to show the importance of communication in maintaining peace. The idea is that a simple greeting can be the first step toward understanding and cooperation.
